5. VMware Workstation Pro
What it is
A software-based platform that allows to create, run, and manage multiple virtual machines on a physical computer.
Purpose
Can use it to run different operating systems, test software, and develop applications without affecting the main operating system.
Free for personal use
As of late 2024, VMware Workstation Pro and Fusion Pro are available free for personal use.
To install VMware Workstation Pro on Windows 11, first, visit the Broadcom portal and create or log in to an account to download the free personal use version. Then, download the .exe installer, and run it as an administrator. Follow the setup wizard, accept the license agreement, and choose your installation options, then complete the installation.
# Download the Installer
- Open the web browser and go to the Broadcom website or portal to access VMware software.
- Log in to the registered Broadcom account.
- Navigate to the VMware Cloud Foundation section and then to the downloads area.
- Search for or find VMware Workstation Pro for personal use and download the latest version.
# Run the Installer
- Locate the downloaded .exe file in your downloads folder.
- Right-click on the installer file and select "Run as administrator".
# Complete the Setup Wizard
- The VMware Workstation Pro setup wizard will open.
- Click "Next" to proceed, then read and accept the end-user license agreement.
- Choose to install the hypervisor option if not already enabled in the system's BIOS.
- Decide whether to enable enhanced keyboard drivers and whether to automatically check for product updates.
- Select to create desktop or Start menu shortcuts.
- Click "Install" to start the installation process.
- After the installation is complete, click "Finish".
# Launch VMware Workstation Pro
- Find and launch VMware Workstation Pro from the Start Menu or desktop.
- The program is ready for creating new virtual machines or opening existing ones.
